Getting there
Travel from London takes 1.5 to 2 hours by car or train.
| How | Time | Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Car: Drive via the M4 and A34. Follow the brown tourist signs once near the estate rather than relying solely on sat-nav. | 1.5 to 2 hours from Central London | Free parking; fuel/rental varies | Use postcode RG20 9LE for GPS navigation to get to the correct entrance. |
| Train: Take a Great Western Railway train from London Paddington to Newbury Station, then a pre-booked taxi to the castle. | 1 hour train + 15 min taxi | £20-£40 train + ~£20 taxi each way | Taxis do not wait outside the castle, so you must pre-book your return trip in advance. |
| Tour: Book a guided coach day trip from London, often bundled with visits to Stonehenge, Oxford, or the Cotswolds. | Full day (9-11 hours) | £100-£150+ per person | Includes round-trip transport and guaranteed castle entry tickets, ideal if you prefer not to drive. |
